Hawai'i State Capitol

Striking symbolic forms.

The Hawai'i State Capitol Building owes its striking symbolic forms to the virtues of the 50th State and the design expertise of AHL and John Carl Warnecke Architects. Designed for the State of Hawai'i Department of Accounting and General Services, its grand exterior shallow pool is evocative of the Pacific Ocean. 60 ft high columns represent royal palm trees while the House and Senate Chambers spring from the surface of the pool symbolizing the volcanic islands. The central court and open rotunda represent freedom in Hawai'i.
