After much anticipation, we are ready to share the story behind our office renovation—an effort designed not only to enhance how we work, but to reflect who we are. More than a refreshed layout, the renovation embodies the values at the core of our practice: clarity, connection, and the power of design that inspires.
This 14,925-square-foot interior renovation focused on renewing key areas throughout our space, including the reception and lobby, conference rooms, open office areas, and shared gathering spaces. It was created with the intent of supporting a workplace culture grounded in collaboration, wellness, and creativity.
Wherever possible, existing furniture was reused and salvaged materials were diverted from the landfill. The project prioritized finishes with lower carbon impact and included locally-made accent pieces, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship and community-based design.
Inspired by the themes of education, reflection, and inspiration, the design strategy integrates architecture, interiors, and experiential graphic design (EGD) to create a cohesive workplace experience. From circulation to color, every layer of design was envisioned to support clarity and connection.

Wayfinding throughout the office is guided by a visual language that draws on elements found in nature. The corridors are conceptually divided into three zones—Waves, Wind, and Wings—each inspired by the ways people and ideas move organically through space. This layered approach was developed to offer more than directional support; it was designed to create moments of orientation and engagement, helping both staff and visitors intuitively understand their place within the environment.
Individual spaces are further enriched by visual storytelling tied to native and local plants. Specific areas were associated with plants selected for their symbolic and cultural meaning—each representing a set of values intended to shape the function and feel of the space. For example, the wellness room was associated with the K¯ı plant, a symbol of healing and protection, while the kitchen was connected to Kalo, representing nourishment and community. Through this approach, visual elements were designed to reflect the essence of each destination and contribute to a shared sense of place.
The ‘Ohana Room was created with the intent of featuring a collaborative mural—Laulima, or "many hands working together"—as a celebration of team spirit and creative participation. Across the space, murals envisioned by local artists were developed to bring energy and storytelling into everyday moments, with opportunities to reflect on the environment, inspire conversation, and visually connect the AHL team to the broader community.
Anchoring the experience is a timeline wall designed to share our story. As envisioned, the installation weaves together milestones in AHL’s history, project highlights, firm values, and our sustainability goals. A large-scale map graphic was also included as part of the design strategy—intended to communicate the firm’s reach and reinforce the impact of place-based design across Hawai‘i and the Pacific.
This renovation reflects our evolution as a firm—where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the values that continue to guide our work. Every space was created with intention, designed to support connection, and envisioned to inspire.
