Designer/Historic Preservation Specialist

AHL’s office in downtown Honolulu is seeking a Designer/Historic Preservation Specialist to join our highly creative and collaborative team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for preparation of design and construction documents, Historic Compliance and recordation documents, and conducts Historic research.

Salary Range: $70,000 to $90,000

AHL offers a hybrid office/remote 3/2 schedule and a 4-1/2 day work week.

education
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of three years related experience in general architectural design and drafting and two years of historic preservation experience.
  • No certification required.
knowledge/skills
  • Knowledge of general architectural design and drafting.
  • General knowledge of procedures, production of construction documents, design development and presentation documents.
  • Working knowledge of construction techniques, building materials, detailing and related engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Proficiency in CAD and/or REVIT.
  • Microsoft Office Suite software experience.
  • Knowledge of general Historic Preservation standards and guidelines, State preservation requirements (6E), documentation standards.
  • Experience in conducting historic research at local archives, museums, online resources, etc.
  • Conducts drafting and design tasks.
typical duties
  • Maintains CAD/Revit file protocol.
  • Prepares presentation design drawings. Develops details and lays out small jobs under supervision.
  • Ability to produce a complete set of working drawings under supervision.
  • Assists in architectural problem solving.
  • Checks and coordinates details and dimensions.
  • Conducts on site surveys of structures for recordation, to identify historic features, and to determine level of remaining integrity.
  • Conducts historic research, prepares documentation, compliance, tax credit applications, condition analysis, and other Historic Preservation related documents.
  • Other specific responsibilities as assigned.
